Description

"Raven Call"
The following excerpt is from Susan's column in Faezine , a free online magazine where Susan is a featured artist and writer. [link]
"I could have walked endlessly for miles across the fields without interruption except for the one thing that broke its perfect continuity. I approached this extremely common yet simultaneously extraordinary object in my path. As I reached out, my hand passed over its surface with a keen reverence of history. Before me was a massive stone emerging from the earth and reaching high towards the sky. It was one of many carefully arranged in a large circle. I contemplated the humor in the fact that I would think of this particular rock as special. It was ancient, yes, but all rocks everywhere are equally as aged and a part of this planets history. Yet, this rock was different."

Raven Call was the Autumn 2009 cover image for Faezine.
This image was quite complex and a compilation of photographs I have taken in many different places around our globe: The mountain in the back were taken in New Zealand, the standing stones were from Stonehenge, England, the stone bowl was from fountains abbey, England, the meadow and autumn trees are from California. The models were taken at FaerieWorlds in Eugene, Oregon: Cindy Shepard, Kyle Shepard and Mark Bydalek. The ravens were taken in many places! I painted the fires digitally.

In all of my artwork, I, Susan Schroder, am the artist and photographer. All elements of my work are original to me.
I do not use stock photography or stock art.
I am the photographer for all background elements and also the models in the image.
The fantasy effects that are not photographic are digitally painted by me, as well.
